Here's the story
on a 1976 Ford Van. It belonged to Mel Slaybaugh in Des Moines
Iowa. I called him up last year to see if he would bring it down
for Our 30 Springfever Van run. He said it hadn't been out of
the garage in 18 years, and wanted know if I was interested in
buying it. I went up to see it on Presidents Day in 2007. Loaded
it up on a trailer and brought it home. The first thing I had
to do is get it running, that took about a month. Then I took
off all the chrome around the middle of the Van a long with the
Emblems. Then we had it Bakensoda Basted to remove all the paint
.I took it to Atchison Kansas were Scott Willis , a member of
our club Vantasia was a Service manager of a car Dealership.
They began taking everything a part, to do body work and paint.
They did the base Blue Paint. Then it was off to K. C. Creations
a local Motorcycle shop in Kansas City. Where Scott Thomas and
three other Artist did there Magic .After they were finished
it went back to Atchison to spray on the clear. I got it home
where we began working on the inside a little, didn't have to
do to much to the wood work, but all the upholstery and carpet
need replaced. I added a tilt steering column that I had painted
to match the wood grain, along with a drop down TV in the back.
In TV and stereo with Amps and new speakers. Rear View Camera
in the dash. Power Windows and Door locks. Underground lighting
and effects. New wheels and tires. Finished inside the back doors
that was never done. I was a Year to the weekend that I bought
it and I put it in the Kansas City World Of Wheels, I took Best
in my Class, Outstanding Paint, and Outstanding Interior, which
I was competing against all the Trucks ,Street Rods and Custom
Cars. I'm still working on it to get ready for what IM really
looking forward to is taking it Van-Ins across the Country .
